The New Moon In Aries
“Spring makes its own statement, so loud and clear
that the gardener seems to be only one of the instruments,
not the composer.” ~ Geoffrey B. Charlesworth
Every month, the New Moon is the perfect time for new beginnings, dealing with change, and to pause and reflect.
On April 1 (1:24 AM Central Time; the time and day depends on where you live), the New Moon will be in energetic, adventurous, invigorating, and fun loving Aries.
It is spring! Nature wakes up. We feel more joy, positive, and hopeful. The birds are singing, the trees budding, and it is time for new beginnings. Everything around us in nature seems to come to life and we feel that new raw energy that helps young new life thrive and survive. All these cheerful energies inspired me to draw this painting of Aries above.
Last time, when we set our intention, the New Moon was in Pisces. Our questions were about guidance in navigating inward, into our inner and subjective world. We allowed ourselves to daydream, to use our imagination and to connect to the spiritual realm. The focus was on surrendering and letting go of old patterns.
While Uranus is still in Taurus and might give us a lingering sense of being held back, we will feel more able to breathe as the tensions and power struggles between Saturn and Uranus are slowly lifting. The last week of March and first week of April we could, however, experience short fuses, hot tempers, and the need to instigate or stir things up.
The key is to redirect all that spontaneous energy to initiate something new and to dive into new fun adventures.
With this new extra powerful New Moon in Aries, a new astrological moon cycle begins. It is a wonderful time to start something completely new for the coming months and/or to begin inner transformation. This time gives us courage and drive and we have to take advantage of this energy to finally do what we have been dreading or postponing, such as starting a new job, project, business, relationship, study, (fitness/weight loss) program, or self improvement. This is the time to get started before the next Mercury Retrograde cycle.
This is also a perfect time to conquer anxiety and fear and gain courage by fearlessly doing things we have never done before without any hesitation. Because Aries is all about raw instincts, we tend to follow our hunches when the sun or moon goes through Aries. To avoid any disappointments or regrets as results of impulsiveness, it might help to explore our intentions and all the pros and cons before we jump into something life changing in April.
The past year, we had time to reflect on who we are and want to be. Now it is time to become that person and connect with that new identity. For example, I have been drawing since I was a child. In my twenties, I started showing and selling artwork besides my corporate job. On the New Moon in Aries in 2009, I set my intention to turn my life love for creating art into a lifestyle and to become a full time artist. From then on, I used every New Moon to set an intention to get closer to that goal. I was able to decrease working 60 hours a week for a boss to 30, until I was able to create art full time from 2011. Being an Enneagram Type 4, becoming a fulltime artist was my own personal spiritual journey, a whole different new life than a stressful career in the insurance and banking industry.
We can use the Aries energies of this New Moon during this time of new beginnings to write down our wishes, questions, and prayers for cosmic help.
What we decide on the New Moon in Aries sets the tone and first block for the next 11 astrological new moon cycles.
For best results, it is best to write the wishes on the exact New Moon or within 6 hours.
After defining our questions and desires, we can watch how the synchronicities will increase to get us closer to manifesting our dreams. We can ask whatever we want as long as our wishes are specific and aligned with the energies that are present.
Here are some examples of questions we might ask and wishes in the spirit of Aries. This is also a great opportunity to reflect on which of our wishes came true last month and which ones need some more time to manifest.
- Who am I now and who do I want to be or become?
- How can I use Aries energy to stand up for myself without causing harm to others?
- What new things do I want to start or experience that give me a lot of joy?
- How can I fearlessly move forward and initiate things in my community, in society, with my family and friends without hurting others in the process?
- Help me to find ways to become the person I truly want to be.
- I need guidance to start (new project, new relationship, new business, etc).
Note: We may notice others might resist any changes we are making by not respecting the boundaries we set or reacting aggressively rather than assertively. In response, we can stay centered and remember everyone has their own lessons, path, and needs. We can also ask ourselves:
- How can I set clear and healthy boundaries?
- I would like to stand up and fight for what I believe is for the higher good.
- What are my needs and how can I meet them?
- In what way can I encourage people into action?
- How do I protect myself against people with destructive behavior or against a hostile environment?
- How can I maximize the fiery energies Aries can offer without becoming abrasive or too impatient?
- How do my own personal needs, goals, talents, and skills fit or match in harmony with the personal needs, goals, talents, and skills of others (to avoid disappointment and resentment and set realistic expectations).
Once we set our intention and put in our own efforts, help and guidance will appear in surprising and synchronistic ways.
When asking the cosmic guides to grant our wishes, it is important that we maintain a mindset of gratitude. We may ask for a wish to be granted, but we can’t dictate how our dreams will manifest.
If you feel a lot of resistance while writing your wishes and your mind is filled with doubts, ask yourself if you are truly ready for change or if it would be better to wait for another New Moon in a sign with energies that align more with your soul and goals.
Some wishes take longer to manifest than others because it is a journey and process. You can continue this process every New Moon until you realize your goal. If, after 3 New Moons, you still haven’t come closer to realizing your dream, it could be an indication that important steps and questions have been skipped and need to be addressed first. In my case, even though I have been drawing since I was a child, I had to develop drawing and illustration skills first until I was able to accept commissions and illustrate my own writings.
This opportunity to realize our dreams, goals, and full potential with cosmic help is very empowering.
On the next New Moon in Taurus, we will build further on that sense of empowerment. We will then look back and reflect on which wishes came through, which questions were answered, and where we have to direct our focus.
Enjoy a fun new journey with these lively Aries energies!.

Drawn in by a fear of the unknown, combined with curiosity about the future and the metaphysical realm, Ursula studied for three years with Dutch Astrologer, Liesbeth van Ravenhorst, in the early nineties.
As she was embarking on her own spiritual journey, her astrology practice became more about diving deep into our soul, connecting with our authentic self, and our soul purpose. Her love for humanity and every sentient being on earth motivated her to further expand her astrological knowledge by studying collective consciousness.
If she is not studying the celestial influences, she is either writing or you can find her in her art studio painting and illustrating. All her work is inspired by her love for astrological insights, nature and her pets.
