Christmas Reminders
Like Thanksgiving, and similar holidays, Christmas exists to remind us of key “Spiritual Experiences” that can enhance our lives.
What are these experiences? “Love,” and its activator, “Repentance.”
On this Holiday, I’m focusing on these two experiences intentionally, because I’ve always thought we are more reflective on this day—and less apt to feel resistance to these spiritual words because of our pasts. All of us have met people who seem to advocate love and repentance superficially…without actually displaying them as an aspect of overall SPIRITUAL CONSCIOUSNESS…and it can be confusing.
Yet, this kind of superficiality is now on the wane. Already, most spiritual traditions refer to “Love and Repentance” in a deeper way, and right now there is a new awareness emerging that looks at these experiences from a “Transpersonal Psychology” point of view—as true life-enhancers that lift our Consciousness.
In fact, I believe there is a rising consensus emerging about what “Love” and “Repentance” really are as experiences…and I bet you do too.
We seem to know that love is not a concept at all, it is an emotion—built into our being as a possible feeling we can have inside, like any of the other emotions. But the emerging consensus—one anyone might prove to themselves—is that Love is, in fact, the Ruling Emotion. The emotion that sets us free from all the ups and downs of the other emotions.
I bet that you have already looked at this issue yourself. When we enlarge our feeling of Love by prayerfully intending it during meditation, it becomes the great stabilizer of our lives, bringing us a transcendental Peace and all that comes with it.
But we have to build it within ourselves. Other emotions like fear, anger, and relationship hurts are always seeking to overwhelm us with their angst.
But if love is intended as a solution—and if we remember to seek it—it can grow in our hearts as a powerful primary emotion. One so powerful in fact, that we can reach a point where the lower emotions can only exist long enough for us to realize it, and then we can “Let them go” and come back to the experience of love.
Here is where the experience of “Repentance” comes in. Repentance is the psychological mechanism by which we “let go” of the things that are holding us back…And they aren’t just lower emotions. They are “control dramas” by which we try to find relief from our angst by manipulating energy and by seeking power over others.
We now know power-seeking, and control dramas, and other addictions are only temporary solutions…We can repent of these habits and additions, and “let go” of them every time they show themselves.
Finally, Repentance, as an experiential act, helps us remember the ultimate solution. We have to remember to move back into love long enough to experience what we get when our love grows into a Connection with “Divine Love”—a Consciousness that truly makes life easier and more fulfilling.
In this Connection, we get all the other transcendent abilities we have been looking for all along. We receive a miraculous sense of Peace. We hear an Intuitive Guidance that can steer our path. And, we breakthrough to a clarity about our Personal Mission to help the world…
A consciousness of Love and the continued act of Repentance can give us all these things.
And if we forget… well, Christmas is there to remind us.
