The New Moon in Capricorn
“Endurance is patience concentrated.”
~ Thomas Carlyle
On December 23, 2022 (4:16 AM Central Time; the time and day depends on where you live), the New Moon will be in the ambitious, responsible, disciplined, goal oriented, and calculated risk-taker Capricorn.
This New Moon in Capricorn is all about overcoming the inner conflict between the part of ourselves that wants to give up and the part that wants to keep going. It is also about exploring beyond our comfort zone and to continue our journey up, in spite of obstacles.
To honor the Capricorn energies, I painted “Pinnacle” for this article and will explain below how helpful these goal-oriented energies have been for me this year and in the past decades.
I hope my examples will help you to also reflect on your own experiences to see how far you have come and how you can use Capricorn’s energy to guide you in the new year.
In my teens and twenties, I craved worldly success and achieved those ambitions by owning a house, making a 6-figure salary, and receiving many company perks such as a fancy car in the corporate Banking/Insurance and Pharmaceutical world. I also achieved recognition as a fashion model, mainly to please my loving but ambitious naval officer father.
When I thought I had reached the highest top, it turned out I was actually standing on a tiny hill with a very lousy view of the future. I was considered too old for the fashion world and too soft for the corporate world. On top of that, I had lost everything I worked so hard for, including my father to cancer whom I had sacrificed all my own dreams for.
In typical Capricorn fashion, on January 5, 2001, I picked myself up and began climbing a very steep mountain seeking infinite inner peace, love, awareness, joy, and a connection with my spiritual self and divine source at the top.
Fast forward… Both the New Moon and the Sun were in Capricorn, on January 2nd, 2022. After 21 years of climbing the rocky spiritual path and reaching the halfway point, I felt ready to be there for fellow spiritual mountaineers and I set my New Moon intention.
About two weeks later, I discussed my intention with Amanda in the Celestine Vision Community, and she came up with the idea for me to come out of Astrology retirement to do readings again within the community. She also suggested writing articles that could be used afterwards to put in a book.
On that same day, I committed to writing and illustrating 12 articles and so here we are, 12 months later…my 12th article and painting.
When I accepted the new ambitious project, I had no idea what a spiritual learning process it would actually be for me. Every article was a test to find out how much I really have overcome my own self defeating thoughts. My own belief in astrology was tested as well as my trust in my own capabilities to not only write the articles but also illustrate them myself.
The articles were time sensitive. But despite the time pressure, I remained focused on the positive and on providing hope, motivation, and guidance through challenging planetary aspects.
It was a big ambitious Capricorn goal.
The 12 articles were all objectives within that goal, and I immersed myself fully in every New Moon’s energies towards it. Every article became more fun to do, and as time went by, I needed less time for both writing and painting, which is the result of Capricorn’s consistent efforts and practice.
Since 2001, I have used a New Moon in Capricorn checklist, or cosmic contract, rather than a list with questions. This list with essences of Capricorn energy has provided years of stable footing to climb and successfully reach bigger goals. I would just print out a list for every different project.
I thought it might be helpful to share my complete Capricorn 2022 checklist/cosmic contract below that I used for the New Moon articles project as an example to show how you can track your projects as you work towards your own bigger goals.
Responsibility. During moments when I was completely creatively blocked, I would listen to inspiring real-life stories and uplifting music that motivated me.
Endurance. There were several times, especially in the first 3 months, I wanted to quit. But, then I just remembered my father’s words to get back up, to brush myself off, and to take the next step that gets me closer to achieving my goal.
Determination. I crafted a strategy like I would for all projects and named this project the New Moon Series 2022. The monthly objective was to write a time sensitive article and to create an illustration. My aim or ultimate goal was to have 12 articles published and illustrated within a year. Mission will be successfully accomplished after submitting this article.
Grit. Drawing from imagination was my first lesson in grit. Spending decades of time and effort in my drawing practice is finally paying off. I was able to accurately transfer my visions and images from my imagination onto paper/canvas for every article.
Self-Discipline. Focusing on diligently writing and painting to meet deadlines and avoiding distractions and temptations was easiest in the last week before the deadline. Next year, adhere more to the planning and schedule to avoid being overwhelmed. Especially when working on many different projects.
Ambition. With every article, I encouraged myself to leave my comfort zone, to use different art media. I asked a little more of myself and I took more risks. This paid off and the experimenting process became a lot of fun.
Patience and trusting the process. I was better able to trust the process and to have more patience for things beyond my control than I did last year.
Time. Our most precious and limited resource. I mostly spent it wisely but could improve next year.
Spiritual growth mindset. I was well aware that I could fail but I set my fears aside and took risks anyway in the creative process. I also was able to not become paralyzed by insecurities about my capabilities.
Be ready to win. Because of my past experiences with expectations and pressures that would follow success, I have been more afraid to win than to fail. I was able to set out to do my absolute best for myself and didn’t compare myself with other astrologers, writers, or artists. I just gave it my all, my heart and soul for the past 12 months… During the second half, I really felt more in the flow with a clear sense of direction and confidence to move towards the finish line.
Preparation. I prepared my mind, spirit, and senses for every objective and followed a step-by-step process to push me forward when I felt like giving up or doubting my abilities. Around the 5th article, I was able to rely on my own growing confidence.
Reach towards higher power. I gained a stronger faith and belief that I would receive divine guidance via synchronicities, and I loyally followed the guidance.
Set realistic expectations and detach from the outcome. In the past this was very hard for me. For example, I believed that I could only be successful in a specific career, even if that career was not well suited to my soul. The result was that I wasn’t able to meet the expectations of that ruthless world but pushed and forced myself to the top anyway. Because I wasn’t able to detach from the outcome, fear and despair started building up inside of me.
However, for this New Moon project, I did set realistic expectations and stayed detached to certain outcomes and things that were beyond my control. As a result, at the end of this project, I feel a sense of happiness, achievement, and gratitude for the loving support of friends and family along the way and for everyone who has read these articles and enjoyed my paintings.
I am very thankful to the Celestine Vision for publishing the articles, especially Amanda, the Comma Queen, who has helped to improve my confidence and my writing in English.
Although I love the initial idea of putting all the published articles in a book, I have chosen to leave these New Moon articles on the website and to once again use Capricorn’s ambitious energies. But, this time, I will write and illustrate a book that can be used every year. So, that will be my intention for the coming New Moon.
Before I embark on my next Capricorn driven journey, I will leave some info and dates for you to pay extra attention to.
Since December 12, we may already be feeling the effects of Mercury Retrograde, such as misunderstandings, communication problems, computer problems, orders not arriving in time, and canceled (travel) tickets, etc. From December 29 until January 2023 these problems might intensify. It is important to make important backups or protect important information on your computer and phone.
We could feel extra nostalgic and reach out to people from the past or we could be approached by people we haven’t heard from for a long time.
Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn opposes the Full Moon in Cancer on January 6 2023, which can cause further emotional drama, mix-ups, cross purposes, and overreactions in our relationships and at work.
Throw aspects of Uranus and Saturn in the mix and we might feel like walking on eggshells, unappreciated, patronized, or misunderstood during the holidays. The key is to resist our need to express our frustration in a rebellious way that can cause long-term or even permanent damage.
It would be better to wait to resolve communication related issues until after February 8 2023.
Buckle up for 2023. Next year, the spring will give us a sneak peak of the future when Pluto briefly moves into Aquarius. It’ll give us a taste of what we can expect in 2024 and onward into the next two decades when Pluto permanently moves into Aquarius!
Happy New Moon! May you make the most of the talents you have been given and never give up on them in 2023 and beyond!
Thanks so much for reading the New Moon articles!
Much love and light,
Ursula

About the Author
Drawn in by a fear of the unknown, combined with curiosity about the future and the metaphysical realm, Ursula Brozovich Kerger studied for three years with Dutch Astrologer, Liesbeth van Ravenhorst, in the early nineties. As she was embarking on her own spiritual journey, her astrology practice became more about diving deep into our soul, connecting with our authentic self, and our soul purpose. Her love for humanity and every sentient being on earth motivated her to further expand her astrological knowledge by studying collective consciousness. If she is not studying the celestial influences, she is either writing or you can find her in her art studio painting and illustrating. All her work is inspired by her love for astrological insights, life, nature, and her pets.
