The New Moon In Sagittarius
“Tension of tension, my bow is full-drawn.
Where will the arrow touch down afar? I do not know.”
~ Kyudo The way of archery
On November 23, 2022 (4:57 PM Central Time; the time and day depends on where you live), the New Moon will be in the optimistic, expansive, idealistic, adventurous, truth, and wisdom seeking Sagittarius.
We are now coming up from the deep, freeing ourselves from Scorpio’s intense feelings, and ready to fly with our head in the clouds to dream about anything that makes our heart sing.
With the New Moon in Sagittarius, we are able to expand our minds beyond the boundaries of our ego towards our Divine Self and aim for higher knowledge and truth.
With my painting “The Journey,” that I especially created for this article, I tried to capture the transition from profound and intense Scorpio to expansive, free spirited Sagittarius. A whole new world is opening up for exploration. The bigger picture becomes clearer.
Every year, Sagittarius offers us the learning opportunity to let go of lack-based thinking and embrace an abundance mindset. We can experience “the sky’s the limit” feeling if we dare to dream, embrace lofty ambitions, and (temporarily) favor ideas over reality.
It is important to write down every idea that comes to our mind these coming 5 weeks because any new born idea could shape the future or might become the next visionary novel.
In the last week of December and January, we will be able to figure out if our ideas are practical and realistic, but until then, we can enjoy the fun in daydreaming, brainstorming, aspiring, and giving our thoughts completely free reign.
The day of the New Moon and the 2 weeks after, are great for studying, philosophizing, having deep conversations, and meditating on questions such as:
- How can we bring our thoughts to a higher level of understanding?
- How can we have intellectual discussions from an open mind instead of conditioned, fear based, narrow, and limited beliefs to explore societal and moral issues?
- What is the highest, truest, and wisest human expression and greater truth?
- How do we grow awareness of the bigger picture and infinite unlimited consciousness?
- What new ideas could solve our own problems and the issues in the world around us?
On the Full Moon in Gemini (December 7-8, 2022) and the 2 weeks after, we could feel a need to exchange and communicate those new ideas and insights with others.
In the weeks between the New Moon and Full Moon, it would be wise to not completely lose sight of objectivity and reality. Beware of over dramatization of facts, (self) aggrandizing, and heated arguments or conflicts as the result of clashing ideologies.
Every Full Moon can feel intense because the Sun and Moon are on opposite sides. But, this Full Moon’s effect could be exceptionally powerful.
Mars will join the Moon in Gemini opposing the Sun in Sagittarius during the Full Moon. At the same time, Neptune is squaring both the Moon/Mars and the Sun, which could create inner conflicts or confusing dilemmas.
On one hand, we might be longing to travel far away, exploring new cultures and higher studies. On the other hand, we could feel the need to spend time with our siblings, join a local community/club, enroll in a short course, write, or just chat and hang out with friends or neighbors.
The key is to stay true to ourselves and then to make a decision wholeheartedly and truthfully.
Setting a clear, conscious, and mindful intention in the coming 5 weeks, could prevent the feeling of being pulled in two completely different directions. It could also help us avoid defensive behavior when we try to do too many things at once, to please others, or to soothe our own fear of missing out.
Mars, being Retrograde, encourages us to ‘re-’flect and gain deep wisdom and to ‘re-’visit our neglected passions and dreams, instead of immediately acting on ideas or jumping into action.
A couple of days after the Full Moon, the Moon will oppose Pluto and Saturn which can cause intense emotions. Idealism can turn into fanaticism and conviction into dogmatic beliefs. If we cling to rigid personal opinions we could find ourselves in situations of distrust and fiery disagreements. But, if we focus on the highest spiritual ideals, such as peace, universal love, and the good in people, we will soar on Sagittarius’s positive outlook and are able to overcome suspicions and other temporary setbacks.
It is okay to temporarily surrender to wishful thinking to help us move forward in times of distress.
Ever notice how flowers are able to not only grow but also bloom into cracks of asphalt or cement floors? This is a perfect time to ask ourselves how we can become like these flowers.
Do you know someone who always sees the best in everyone, even in the most horrific situations? How does it feel to be around this person? We could learn to become more open-minded and build bridges to collaborate and cooperate, instead of engaging in power struggles.
Can you name people you admire for always hoping for the best and imagining positive outcomes despite dire situations? How did these people become more compassionate instead of resentful, envious, and negative?
Instead of wallowing and drowning in self pity, fear, or only focusing on what is wrong in the world, Sagittarius energies encourage us to see life as an exciting adventure and to enjoy the journey despite the obstacles and difficult challenges we might encounter.
When my parents were celebrating their 25th Anniversary, I asked my father why they were still acting like new lovers after everything they have been through. He told me, with a starry-eyed smile, that every day he approached my mother as if he had seen her for the first time when he fell in love with her.
Many things in life start with imagining a certain outcome. We can either create worries by imagining a worst case scenario or realize our dreams by holding on to a dream and working towards it until it is realized.
My painting also represents my own 30 year artistic and spiritual journey: the puzzles I had to solve, bridges I had to create, the bigger picture and beauty in the world I had to learn to focus on, overcoming the fear to soar, seeking what is true, aiming at what truly matters, and believing in dreams that were considered impractical, unattainable, and unrealistic by my environment.
In the coming weeks, I want to use the Sagittarius energies to extend my dreams for a peaceful world.
Please join me in imagining, meditating, and praying to create a world where nobody will have to worry about basic needs for survival so that we can focus on a future where humans can express their highest and truest nature.
Happy New Moon! May your dreams, visions, and imagination carry you through storms and hardships.

About the Author
Drawn in by a fear of the unknown, combined with curiosity about the future and the metaphysical realm, Ursula Brozovich Kerger studied for three years with Dutch Astrologer, Liesbeth van Ravenhorst, in the early nineties. As she was embarking on her own spiritual journey, her astrology practice became more about diving deep into our soul, connecting with our authentic self, and our soul purpose. Her love for humanity and every sentient being on earth motivated her to further expand her astrological knowledge by studying collective consciousness. If she is not studying the celestial influences, she is either writing or you can find her in her art studio painting and illustrating. All her work is inspired by her love for astrological insights, life, nature, and her pets.
