The New Moon in Gemini
“Here’s much to do with hate, but more with love” ~ William Shakespeare
On May 30 (6:30 AM Central Time; the time and day depends on where you live), the New Moon will be in, curious, change-seeking, playful, information-loving, and paradox embracing Gemini.
The cheerful, airy energy, thoughts, data, ideas, information, ambiguity, knowledge, and paradoxes is what I tried to capture in the watercolor painting “Sweet Teeter-Totter” for this month. Normally, I don’t share all the symbolism I put in my paintings and leave interpretation to the viewer. But, in this case, I will share some of the less obvious elements with you.
The watermelon teeter-totter expresses the Gemini consciousness.
The seeds represent our thoughts and the many treasures of information, spread around by lively winged creatures, helping to grow more fruits or knowledge. I made one side of the watermelon heavier than the other, expressing how easily our flow of thinking can be stagnated without being fully conscious or aware of it. This can happen when we try to solve a paradox or dilemma by favoring one side more than the other.
For example, we might sit on one side and wonder: if we are at the mercy of fate, then why bother reading these new moon articles and ordaining or praying for a certain outcome? Another conundrum that could bog us down could be: If a lot is out of our control, why do we even care to think or do something about things?
The good news is that Gemini embraces paradoxes and paradoxical thinking and we can use this intellectual energy by creating a purpose to bring conflicting roles, ideas, or points of view into balance. This allows competing thoughts, opinions, and beliefs to exist side by side, rather than resisting or fighting them.
Last time, when we set our intention, the New Moon was in Taurus. We focused on grounding ourselves by connecting with our senses and reflecting on what gives us peace, security, and harmony so that the external world would not easily throw us out of balance. We will now build on this inner sense of security that will serve as the center pivot point or center of balance, in the middle of the Gemini Teeter-Totter.
If we continue building on this inner strength and security, we will be able to enjoy the many activities and make many new connections in the coming months.
It will also be easier to deal with conflicting concepts, such as having a calm and serene mind while functioning in a hectic environment. We don’t feel the need to flee high into the mountains to attain inner peace, and we can tap into that calm energy while being stuck in traffic, caught in (work/friends/family/political) drama, or any other less fun activity. Contradicting information will become even more likely, pulling us in and from all directions. Like with every teeter-totter, we need an anchor to be able to balance everything.
Our life pace will be picking up speed and our interactions with others will also increase a lot. Besides enjoying the freed up energies, we can also practice to embrace duality, ambiguity, uncertainty, and paradoxes by bridging seemingly opposing viewpoints.
By validating and understanding contradicting positions we can create spiritual balance. If we want to solve a conflict caused by a paradox, we can ask ourselves what the purpose would be. For example, is it to integrate two opposing views for a higher purpose or to control the other?
A paradox is a great lesson of acceptance because it might never be solved and that is why I used the quote from Romeo and Juliet for this article. We also see this play out around us in our families and the whole world, where most of us are forced to pick a side and to put more weight on one side of the teeter-totter while negating the other side.
Advice for the month of June:
Last month, we learned to ground ourselves more in gratitude by writing down the things we enjoyed at the end of each day in a journal until, at least, June 19. In the second week of June, we could start sharing and communicating those experiences or questions with someone else or a group.
The ruler of Gemini, Mercury, is still retrograde in Taurus until the 3rd of June. It will continue moving very slowly. Holding off on signing important documents or other life changing actions/conversations is still advised until it finally arrives in its own sign on the 14th. Misunderstandings and control dramas may be highly likely in the first week and we might still feel a bit mentally sluggish because Saturn is still holding the mercurial energies back a little until the end of the third week in June.
But, in the second week the vibe will already change. Ideas will fly around, thoughts move at lightning speed, and communications will be more positive and fruitful. Venus will join Mercury in the party as well to lift our spirits and we want to have fun and put the plans we made into practice.
Until June 19, we will still feel the effects of Mercury retrograde; and, until the next solar eclipse in October, the former partial Taurus Solar eclipse might not go as quick or smooth as we want which can cause a little restlessness. We feel ready to move on and are craving change and progress. But, the cosmic energies, especially Pluto, are urging us to wait and re-examine and re-evaluate things we want to do a little longer because the decisions we make this year will have decades-long lasting consequences.
The coming months, our thoughts will have an extra effect on our feelings and actions.
In school, I was always fascinated by physics, especially the ‘moment of a force’ principle because it could solve so many problems by creating many levers or tools to make our daily lives easier.
Anyone who has ever changed a flat tire understands how important a car jack is to push a car up. But it works exactly like the seesaw; car load/weight is on one side and the human effort on the other side. Or, think of how a screwdriver can help us pry open a can of paint without much effort.
The same counts for our mental forces that we can use to leverage and cause progress or harm in our fast paced life over the upcoming months until the next Mercury Retrograde in September.
In my own experience, it is easier to create freely within a determined framework, theme, or subject. In this case, I am writing about the New Moon in Gemini and created an illustration that supports the dualistic theme. If I didn’t have an intention or purpose, I would just be rambling and doodling.
We see this ‘framing’ in the many narratives or stories being created in the world for this same purpose: to keep mental activities organized, the audience hooked on a story line, and to avoid scattered information. People who own information outlets know how to use communication to leverage.
Strong Gemini-Mercury energies can help us unclog the stagnated flow of information and move the information freely up and down until we see the facts and information settle that are real. But, the only way is to embrace polarities and duality to get to that point.
If we would curse the darkness and night, we would also curse the owls and we would be unable to see the moon.
We can use the Gemini energies of this New Moon during this time of new beginnings to write down our wishes, questions, and prayers for cosmic help.
For best results, it is best to write the wishes on the exact New Moon or within 6 hours.
After defining our questions and desires, we can watch how the synchronicities will increase to get us closer to manifesting our dreams. We can ask whatever we want as long as our wishes are specific and aligned with the energies that are present.
Here are some examples of questions we might ask and wishes in the spirit of Gemini. This is also a great opportunity to reflect on which of our wishes came true last month and which ones need some more time to manifest.
- How can I stand up for my own point of view while also embracing perspectives that differ from my own?
- What is a way to expand my knowledge without overwhelming myself with information overload or becoming too distracted by irrelevant info?
- I accept guidance to share my thoughts and knowledge in a clear way.
- How can I nurture my curiosity?
- What is the best way to face my fears of criticism and failure to avoid lying, distorting facts, twisting someone’s words, compartmentalizing myself, or creating two faces/personalities?
- How can I be very flexible in my thinking without becoming too wishy-washy?
- How can I leverage speech in a way to not just say what people want to hear to win their approval but to inspire positive change and trust in others?
- I embrace guidance to think independently and critically.
- How can I learn to do more research instead of accepting easily accessible one-sided information?
- What new ideas do I want to explore?
- How can I improve my communication skills in every life area?
- How can I stay clear from wanting to be right and focus on having an actual conversation or discussion instead?
- What are my true intentions when I am speaking to someone?
- How can I set clear and healthy boundaries in this fast communication age when people expect instant replies, answers, or communication?
- What topic can I explore from all sides to expand more knowledge and understanding?
- What can I do to not be at the mercy of other people’s whims and pressures?
- How can I develop my sense of discernment to solve dilemmas such as knowing the difference between what is urgent and what can wait, as well as, what I can change and what I have to accept?
- I open my awareness to notice and resolve discrepancies before they create problems.
- How can I connect important topics, concepts, people, interests, and information that will be helpful to expand human consciousness?
Once we set our intention and put in our own efforts, help and guidance will appear in surprising and synchronistic ways.
When asking the cosmic guides to grant our wishes, it is important that we maintain a mindset of gratitude. We may ask for a wish to be granted, but we can’t dictate how our dreams will manifest. If you feel a lot of resistance while writing your wishes and your mind is filled with doubts, ask yourself if you are truly ready for change or if it would be better to wait for another New Moon in a sign with energies that align more with your soul and goals.
Some wishes take longer to manifest than others because it is a journey and process. You can continue this process every New Moon until you realize your goal. If, after 3 New Moons, you still haven’t come closer to realizing your dream, it could be an indication that important steps and questions have been skipped and need to be addressed first. In my case, I had to learn scales over and over again, and practice before I was able to play piano in front of an audience. This opportunity to realize our dreams, goals, and full potential with cosmic help is very empowering.
On the next New Moon in Cancer, we will build further on that sense of empowerment. We will then look back and reflect on which wishes came through, which questions were answered, and where we have to direct our focus.
Have fun! Enjoy finding diverse information sources and making new friends with these mentally stimulating Gemini energies.
