The New Moon in Taurus
“Forever is composed of Nows” ~ Emily Dickinson
Every month, the New Moon is the perfect time for new beginnings, dealing with change, and to pause and reflect.
On April 30 (3:27 PM Central Time; the time and day depends on where you live), the New Moon will be in the patient, steady, determined, and purposeful Taurus.
Ah…the sound of the wind, the cool breeze caressing our skin, the flowers delighting us with their colors, and the delicious flavor and scent of fresh mint in the gardens. All these enjoyable, harmonious, and lyrical moments are brought to us by our five senses, which inspired me to create the musical themed painting for this article. I also tuned in to the strong Taurus energies in my own natal chart to add some additional practical notes.
Last time, when we set our intention, the New Moon was in Aries, marking the new beginning of an astrological moon cycle. This new moon in Taurus is a partial solar eclipse and we will already start to feel the Mercury retrograde energies in Taurus, nudging us to slow down and be more mindful.
During retrogrades and eclipses, it is always best to be proactive and ‘re’-think and ‘re’-evaluate everything to avoid fated moments that force us into ‘re’-flection. For example, in May and June we might need to keep closer track of our spending habits and watch financial trends so that we are not caught off guard with unexpected extra expenses, such as increased rent, loan or mortgage costs, repairs, etc. to prevent being evicted from our home.
It would also be a good idea to examine our own thoughts if they contribute to a better and joyous life, or if they get us in sticky situations.
Most of our solar system celestial bodies will be huddled in Taurus and Pisces. Besides the Mercury Retrograde energies, the Taurean energies are further nudging us to slow down and to connect with our body and senses while, paradoxically, the Pisces energies encourage us to tune in to the energies or non-solid matter, in which connecting with the higher vibrations and spiritual realm remains possible.
Thanks to our senses we’re able to experience the tangible enjoyable things in life, while the spiritual energies will help us to become aware that there is a force mightier than ourselves.
This combo of New Moon and Solar eclipse will be powerful for self mastery, strengthening discipline and our spiritual connection. We will feel its empowering effects until the next solar eclipse in October.
The first week of May, from a place of love, we could develop or strengthen our patience and compassion and experience beautiful, intense (romantic) moments or that long awaited inspiration to create something. However, if we react from our fear, ego, or power, we could experience obsessions, confusion, deception, a disrespect for boundaries, avoidance, over indulgence, and delusions.
We already have been experiencing Pluto’s transformative life changing energies the past two years. Now, everything we—as a collective—decide and focus on this year, will set the tone for the coming decades. This pressure and uncertainty could cause restlessness and feelings of insecurity and a fear of making the wrong decisions.
The key is to ease into these Taurus energies and savor every moment.
At the end of each day we could reflect on what we enjoyed that day and write down in a journal what made us feel safe, secure, and comfortable until at least June 19.
By being present and writing our enjoyable moments down at the end of the day, we explore what is important to us and we create valuable memories to look back on. We become more aware of what we need, value, enjoy, and what makes us feel comfortable.
Knowing what moments are valuable will also create inner peace because we truly know what makes us feel secure and we don’t need the outside world for approval or to tell us what we need or want. This inner security will help guide us through our fears when we are unsure about something or need to face uncertainties.
Keeping track of our enjoyable moments is also a practice of gratitude and acceptance and prevents us from finding ourselves longing to replicate certain pleasurable moments in the future or getting stuck in nostalgia.
Sustaining gratitude will create inner peace, harmony, and balance. It could be as simple as gratefulness for the ability to smell, or as grand as feeling alive, or having found the love of your life. Or, for things we normally take for granted such as plumbing, having running water, and a roof over our head.
Instead of writing in a journal, we could also write the feelings we experienced on a piece of paper and put that in a jar to solidify the experience and collect tiny reminders of gratitude for challenging times.
This month is a perfect time to enjoy nature or gardening or treat ourselves with luxury experiences such as gourmet food, quality fabrics or bedlinen, or maybe a wellness retreat.
Because Taurus is all about the sensual experiences, we tend to over indulge when the sun or moon goes through Taurus. To avoid any disappointments or regrets as a result of over indulgence, it might help to evaluate our sense of security and self worth before we decide to make a large purchase or indulge in something in May and June.
We can use the Taurus energies of this New Moon during this time of new beginnings to write down our wishes, questions, and prayers for cosmic help.
For best results, it is best to write the wishes on the exact New Moon or within 6 hours.
After defining our questions and desires, we can watch how the synchronicities will increase to get us closer to manifesting our dreams. We can ask whatever we want as long as our wishes are specific and aligned with the energies that are present.
Here are some examples of questions we might ask and wishes in the spirit of Taurus. This is also a great opportunity to reflect on which of our wishes came true last month and which ones need some more time to manifest.
- What are my values and are my actions aligned with my values?
- What experiences give me a lot of joy and what creates discomfort?
- How can I connect to my inner security and peace, and stay clear from a sense of false security?
- How can I contribute to positive transformation within my community, society, or circle of family and friends?
- I accept guidance to plan and think about building and growing (project, resources, relationship, business, garden, etc).
- Do I react from a place of fear or do I respond from a place of trust?
- How can I anchor abstract and spiritual ideas and apply them in the physical world?
- How can I feel safe without forcing others to provide a sense of security?
- What new habits will lead to spiritual evolution?
- How can I stay clear from compulsions and addictive behavior?
Note: We may notice others might resist any changes we are making by not respecting the boundaries we set or reacting aggressively rather than assertively. In response, we can stay centered and remember everyone has their own lessons, path, and needs. We can also ask ourselves:
- How can I set clear and healthy boundaries?
- What are my own needs and how can I meet them?
- How can I set realistic expectations?
- How do I protect myself against people with destructive behavior or against a hostile environment or situation?
- How do my own personal needs, goals, talents, values, and skills fit or match in harmony with the personal needs, goals, talents, values, and skills of others (to avoid disappointment and resentment)?
- I can’t demand or require others to do something but, how do I express what I prefer to happen?
Once we set our intention and put in our own efforts, help and guidance will appear in surprising and synchronistic ways.
When asking the cosmic guides to grant our wishes, it is important that we maintain a mindset of gratitude. We may ask for a wish to be granted, but we can’t dictate how our dreams will manifest. If you feel a lot of resistance while writing your wishes and your mind is filled with doubts, ask yourself if you are truly ready for change or if it would be better to wait for another New Moon in a sign with energies that align more with your soul and goals.
Some wishes take longer to manifest than others because it is a journey and process. You can continue this process every New Moon until you realize your goal. If, after 3 New Moons, you still haven’t come closer to realizing your dream, it could be an indication that important steps and questions have been skipped and need to be addressed first. In my case, I had to learn scales over and over again, and practice before I was able to play piano in front of an audience.
This opportunity to realize our dreams, goals, and full potential with cosmic help is very empowering. On the next New Moon in Gemini, we will build further on that sense of empowerment. We will then look back and reflect on which wishes came through, which questions were answered, and where we have to direct our focus.
Seize the enjoyable moments with these appreciative Taurus energies and remember to always end something on a positive note!.

About the Author
Drawn in by a fear of the unknown, combined with curiosity about the future and the metaphysical realm, Ursula Brozovich Kerger studied for three years with Dutch Astrologer, Liesbeth van Ravenhorst, in the early nineties.
As she was embarking on her own spiritual journey, her astrology practice became more about diving deep into our soul, connecting with our authentic self, and our soul purpose. Her love for humanity and every sentient being on earth motivated her to further expand her astrological knowledge by studying collective consciousness.
If she is not studying the celestial influences, she is either writing or you can find her in her art studio painting and illustrating. All her work is inspired by her love for astrological insights, nature and her pets.
