Reflecting On 2018 And Planning For 2019
2018 was intense. In the Spring, big lessons and karma swept in to wake us up, showing us where we had been lacking in responsibility and self-discipline, and encouraged us to take accountability for our life. If that wasn’t enough, astrological forces then thrust us into two months of heightened awareness of our hidden secrets of obsession, procrastination, jealousy, arrogance, power, control, indifference, and destructive impulses—all to activate the process of transformation towards a higher level of our own spiritual evolution.
Quickly afterwards, a veil was dropped, exposing our deceptions, delusions, sacrifices, and boundaries which forced us to look at the harsh reality we have awakened to with inspired compassion and deep healing.
We’ve had deeper lessons on how to step back, pause, and review through all forms of communication as tempers grew short with a tendency to place blame. So many shadows have resurfaced and before we could face the fear, it rose up as anger. This was an opportunity to find new ways of coping and learn some restraint while reacting with our control dramas.
In Autumn, we felt drawn to assess our values—what really gives us meaning, and where we should be focusing our attention. As we opened up to this energy, our temptation was tested, showing us where we became jealous, possessive, and vindictive when we felt threatened. The challenges and conflicts presented were telling us it was time we started getting serious about clearing negative emotions, to look within for that which we were seeking, and know how fortunate we really are. This journey through the darkest shadows of our heart lead us to a deeper faith and gratitude.
As 2018 closes, we start thinking about resolutions and begin our contemplation of all that we experienced throughout the past year. We are being asked to acknowledge what must end and be released, and how we can move forward via expansion and growth to thrive and live more fulfilling lives.
Here are 10 questions to help us all reflect on the events of 2018 and consider what we want to make of 2019:
1. What went well over this past year? And how can you celebrate those achievements?
~ Know what motivated you and brought a sense of meaning and fulfillment to your life and use it as a foundation to build upon going forward.
2. What are the main lessons you have learned?
~ Look deeper with a positive perspective on all the events in 2018 to find the blessings they’ve brought you.
3. What synchronicities did you notice throughout the year?
~ Staying aware and expectant of coincidences/synchronicities will show you how the universe is guiding you and help you understand the deeper meaning of where you are being lead.
4. What excuses do you keep using?
~ Change is hard and wanting is easy but in order to get into the flow and find joy in life, you must wake up to how you have been sabotaging all your efforts, and do the deeper spiritual and practical work to take your emotional and mental power back.
5. What do you need to let go of and/or stop doing?
~ Free up space and time by releasing the things that are draining you, so that you can focus more on giving energy and attention to that which brings joy to yourself and others.
6. What do you need to forgive yourself and others for?
~ Forgiveness doesn’t mean that bad behavior is acceptable; it is meant to release the control that pain has over you so that you are not trapped in guilt, shame, regret, resentment, anger/rage, revenge, etc.
7. What relationships can you improve by releasing your own control dramas?
~ Take responsibility for your part in negative interactions, learn how to stay detached and connected to your own source of energy, vow to stay aware of your energy while uplifting others and seeing/speaking to them on a soul level through conscious conversation.
8. What can you be more grateful for?
~ Gratitude is the precursor for a more meaningful joy-filled life; consider the things you take for granted and who you may need to appreciate more, then watch how things begin to change.
9. How can you rewrite the story you keep telling yourself?
~ When you release yourself from the beliefs, judgments, and victimization that no longer serves you, it empowers you to create the life you deserve.
10. What do you truly desire?
~ Consider all the unique gifts and talents that bring out the best in you and how you can do/be more of them to help you stay in the flow as you move towards those things that you truly desire.
I personally found this year extremely hard on both the head and heart. I committed to embracing all the cosmic energies and using them in a constructive way to help me grow through the lessons as they were presented. At times, I was on my knees, broken, thinking I just couldn’t go on one more day…but with every surrender of the control I held so tightly to, I moved back into the flow and was shown how to raise the vibration of my shadows and turn them into the gifts they are meant to be.
As we move forward into the new year, may we understand, with clarity, what the universe is trying to show us and to recognize that our struggles are gifts of awareness that can help us overcome the obstacles that holds us back from being soulfully authentic.
Wishing you a new year that brings with it inner peace, love, and prosperity. And may 2019 support us in exactly the ways we need to advance our soul missions that we came here to share with the world.
