Move Beyond Your Ego And Into Authenticity
Steps to Aligning with your True Self
Aligning with your true Self takes courage and resilience. If those traits haven’t been cultivated in childhood, you will have to take conscious actions in order to move towards authenticity. To move beyond your Ego and into authenticity, try these four suggestions:
1. Recognize when you are out of alignment with your true Self. Recognize your conditioned behaviors so that when you do behave in a manner that is out of alignment with your true Self, you can feel it. Most of the time, we will try to ignore that feeling because our Ego tells us to. But if we pay attention to it, this feeling can act as an indicator for other conditioned behaviors that you are not yet aware of.
2. Get to know your Ego and identify your wants versus your needs. Identify your conditioned behavioral patterns and try to understand why and how they arose. Ask yourself what you would like to accomplish by playing out these behavioral patterns. Eventually, you should come to understand how your Ego attempts to satisfy your true Self’s ‘needs’ with your egotistical ‘wants’. For example, you might want a lot of wealth because of your need for security, or you might want fame because you feel a need for more love.
3. Learn to love and accept your true Self. There is nothing wrong with your true self, it is only the Ego that can be damaged and injured. Learning to love one’s self is one of the best gifts you could ever give to yourself. I struggled with loving myself for many years and I had thought that the idea of ‘loving yourself’ was so very cliché. However, while I held a sleeping newborn, I realized how innately perfect each human is at the beginning of life. Pain, fear, and resistance are introduced with life experiences and do not originate with the individual.
4. Discover who you really are. Having the courage to face your conditioned behavioral patterns is going to open up a whole new world for you. Start looking into doing things you’ve always wanted to try or places you’ve always wanted to go but didn’t for whatever reason. Try to speak and act authentically while remaining kind. Approach life with optimism and be open to new experiences.
And finally, just Enjoy Yourself!
A lot of people find that they don’t know what their life’s purpose is, nor what makes them passionate about living. These people are often disconnected from their true selves and will likely find their purpose when they begin to discover who they really are. The only way to find out who you really are is to experience life authentically and experiment with life.
