Where are we in our growth towards Spiritual Consciousness?
We are in Between World Views
But happen it did. Sixty years ago we began to wake up and shake off this obsessive material focus. We awakened enough to ask the age-old questions with a renewed vigor: Isn’t there more going on in life than just material survival? Can we discover some secret knowledge that would make all the hard work easier, and more inspired?
We asked these questions anew because at some level we know there is an answer. We know that the ongoing, material part of life doesn’t have to be this hard and boring. There are spiritual keys that allow our struggle for money and survival to be accomplished more effortlessly, as we integrate a larger spiritual consciousness and purpose.
Our problem is that we are now “in between” world views. All the juice has run out of our pursuit of material progress as a life purpose, while, at the same time, the replacement worldview has not yet been fully formed. Many people have concluded that the war, hatred, and incivility now occurring means all is lost. Our hopes for an enlightened world seem thoroughly dashed.
But this is only the chaos of being in a transition phase. Losing a dominant world view is traumatic and brings uncertainty about life. To ease the pain, all kinds of crazy ideologies and realities have been embraced as substitute world views.
These ideologies include violent plans of world conquest by insane religious fanatics; a neurotic focus on money itself — creating a surge of greed and business fraud all across the world. And worst of all, dozens of groundless, conspiracy theories have been promoted as the ultimate truth, and the only way to fight the turmoil.
This doesn’t mean all conspiracy theories are false; they aren’t. We will sort through them in the course of the book.
We have to be strong at a time like this. Seeing all this craziness can make a person discouraged, even depressed. But not if we see the nuttiness as a temporary transition and concentrate on aiding in the formation of the next worldview.
Authentic Spirituality
I believe we can already sense the new Worldview coming into reality. Our ability to accelerate this evolution lies in the greater awakening of two large generations – all of whom are already communicating about spirituality with each other.
I’m speaking of the “Baby-boomers,” and the “Millennials” – two huge generations who together make up most of the people alive in the world. Fortunately, these two generations actually like each other, and together are slowly working on the experience of an “authentic” spiritual experience. One that will provide its own inner proof, replace the chaos … and propel every institution in the world toward its spiritual purpose.
