Helping Someone Find Spirituality
“Dear James, What do you do if the person you love has not yet found a spiritual connection or seems to resist the idea completely? How to help the person you are with when they are not on a spiritual path? My question is how do I support a healthy spiritual process for him?”
Helping Someone Find Spirituality
This can be a complicated issue. In my experience, we tend to draw away from people who put pressure on our decisions. Some people withdraw from persistent suggestions made, even when their intentions are good.
I do not believe you can ever convince someone to seek a spiritual direction with your words. This almost always ends in stubbornness and even anger. I believe you must show the beauty of a spiritual awakening through the examples of your own personal experience. The power of knowing a spiritual existence and living in the peace of His presence is beautiful and powerful.
It becomes, like so many other things in this world, a case where everyone must come to their spiritual connection in their own Divine timing. When you do anything other than support your loved one’s decision, you will likely leave them burnt out and exhausted with your relentless urging. All too often, people pull away from the principles of spirituality altogether and sometimes lose their relationship when they can not be completely free to believe or live as they wish.
So, we have to display our happiness and bliss from our spiritual experiences and live every day to the fullest. Show the comfort and abiding energy you receive and then watch how others will respond to you. If there is love in your relationship and you are healthy and happy together, find other common interests that will allow you to grow. One’s spiritual path is found in perfect timing. Be loving, and hold your faith.
