7 Facts About The Modern Diet
It’s astounding to observe the difference between our diets from 30 years ago compared to the modern diet of today. What once was locally grown and fresh, is now dripping with sugar, over-processed, and pumped full of chemical additives.
As Dr. Blaylock stresses, humans are supposed to eat a wide variety of foods that are in as natural a state as possible. Which in most cases means, as raw, fresh, and clean as you can find. Even in these states, some foods are healthier than others. For instance, low-glycemic vegetables—squashes, dark leafy greens, pea pods, beans, and etc.—are best.
The current situation: we must eat to sustain a higher consciousness and longevity. Even if you are young, you are doing great damage to your body if you do not shift to a sustainable way of living. How you eat determines whether you feel energized or lethargic. Energized, with a higher consciousness, is our goal.
Dr. Mercola, an Integral physician, feels that this recent shift towards more unhealthy diets has become the primary cause of the dramatic increase in disease rates, even among our younger generations. Here are seven facts he gives us about our present nutrition that you need to know.
1. Massive Sugar Consumption Increases Disease Rates
Dr. Mercola states in his article, “11 Charts That Show Everything Wrong With Our Modern Diet,” that the high levels of our sugar consumption produces ultimate health consequences. Our modern diet is directly related to obesity and is the leading cause of one out of five deaths in the US. These deaths include those due to depression, dementia, cancer, liver disease, heart disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and other conditions linked to metabolic dysfunction.
2. Fructose And Refined Sugar Are The Main Culprits
Research found by The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), revealed that within the past few decades, a disturbing growth of dependence on sugar can be seen. Due to an increase of people fulfilling their daily caloric requirements with processed sugar, we notice an alarming acceleration in the risk of sugar-related diseases. JAMA also asserts that the likelihood of death from heart disease is doubled in those whose daily caloric intake is met by 21% or more of sugar, as compared to those who fill it with 7% or less sugar.
